Chapter 3
There are three weeks left until the siblings' trip to Mackinac island. Giovanni doesn't want all their preparation to be stressful, so she invites her siblings to a garden she visits. For a while it's only her and Marcie. They are having a conversation at a café; it's an uncomfortable conversation because it is about Giovanni's biological father and mother. The details Giovanni provides are hazy, and Marcie doesn't want to pry any longer. Eventually, they pay for their coffees and the sun sets shortly after. It's night time and the garden has closed, but Giovanni and Marcie managed to stay in by hiding in the bathroom. When they come out they see three shadowy figures by the front entrance gates.

Unfortunately for them, Keith caught the boys and one by one carried them up to the cafe's rooftop and called the police. One the boys noticed the crest on Giovanni's sweatshirt and said his little sister went to the same school. Giovanni did the unexpected and asked Keith to set a section of an exhibition on fire to frame the boys. That was unlike Giovanni, she was usually rational even in an unfortunate circumstance. Marcie snapped Giovanni back into reality and advised her that would not be a good idea. Marcie took the lighter from Giovanni, and the siblings left the scene before the cops arrived.

It is revealed the three shadowy figures are their other siblings. They all meet by a stone path in the center of the whole garden. Giovanni shows them around the garden until all of them smell smoke coming from the direction they are walking in. As they continued walking the scent got stronger, and they heard laughter coming from the bonsai tree exhibition. There were three boys setting the plants on fire. Giovanni shouts at the boys, and they ignore her. Then, Keith walks up to one of the boys and uses his intangibility to fuse his hand through the boy's hand and takes the lighter. This freaks the boys out, and they try to outrun the siblings.
